Q

Removing SirCam from Exchange Server and LAN

I run Exchange Server 5.5 in a Windows NT network connected to the Internet thru VSAT. I have a PDC which runs MS proxy server 2.0 and a BDC which runs the Exchange Server. For the past three weeks the Exchange Server has been bogged down by the SirCam worm. I have used Norton fix utility but the mass mailing worm could not be detected by it. I used mailessentials with Norton Antivirus but this could only detect the worm and could not remove it.

How can I remove this plague from my Exchange Server and the LAN?

You may find this utility useful: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q274/7/10.ASP, but be sure that you have some real-time scanner working upstream of the Exchange box -- at the firewall level.

If you find that Norton has not provided the solution you require, ask competing companies to help you clean-up. If they sense a potential sale is imminent, they should be more than happy to assist you. Why Norton's tech support has not assisted you yet, is a question to think seriously about.
