What I'm guessing from your question is that IES is either Information and Electronic Services OR Informaton Engineering Services.
Both lead me to believe that they are managed services or a managed gateway. Since I'm unaware of your business or network enviroment, this is the best I can do at this point.
Both are very generic in terms and I'm guessing your management read it in a magazine, which happens all the time, and are now demanding you know exactly what that magazine said.
My best guess is this: Managed Services or some type of Gateway to manage connections between unlike systems. IES is not a standard IT term, thus the confusion in my response.
