I am a novice AS/400 operator. However, my interest lies in security as well as routing and switching in a Cisco...
environment. What type of certification would benefit or complement my AS/400 learning experience? I'm afraid that other than general computing principles and a good appreciation for what you may know as JCL (much of the non-IBM world thinks of as a "command line interface" or CLI) not much will transfer from your AS/400 knowledge base into a Cisco knowledge base. That said, what you're considering is a pretty sound move career-wise.
Given your interests, I'd suggest pursuing the following certifications in the order mentioned:1. CCNA
After that, if you want to go deeper into security or other technical topics, look at Cisco Specialist credentials or at various flavors of the CCIE.
