Which route should I take in the information security field?

I have been in IT for 10+ years and I was looking into IT security. You mentioned you had put together a list of the top 50 or so information security books. Could you please share with me the list? Which route would you recommend I take into this field? There are a few different exams one can do. Which route would be the best and keep me in touch with this field.

Regarding information security reading, I put together these Web resource pages, Part 1 and Part 2 in my capacity as "certification guy" for ExamCram2.com/InformIT.com.

In terms of which route should you take into this field, that depends on what you want to do more specifically. There are lots of topics in which you can specialize, if that's your preference, or you can work as a generalist and take a track into the field that way. For specialties and some few general items, my vendor-specific survey of information security certs is a pretty good guide for general stuff. Both the coverage and the advice in my vendor-neutral security certification landscape survey is also worth consulting.
