QUESTION POSED ON: 21 January 2002
I have a site that is using a Cisco PIX firewall, and it has three
interfaces: inside, outside and a DMZ. I only have funding for one Cisco Secure IDS Sensor. Where do you recommend I put it?

If I could only have one sensor, I would put it on the
outside, before my firewall. That way the IDS could potentially
catch attacks against my firewall, as well as other attacks.
However, I would argue for a larger budget to procure a
few more sensors.
