Simple question about digital certificates. If a company has a few different Web sites (different subsidiaries under the same umbrella), do they need a separate digital certificate for each site, even though the same company owns the sites? My feeling is that we would need a separate certificate for every new site we create, but I wasn't sure.

Each domain URL needs it's own certificate. That is mydomain.com needs a certificate different from yourdomain.com. For sites that have the form of site1.mydomain.com and site2.mydomain.com, it is possible to use a wildcard certificate good for all the *.mydomain.com sites. However, for better identification, each should still have its own certificate. Contact the company that issues your certificates for more information.
