In terms of which route should you take into this field, that depends on what you want to do more specifically. There are lots of topics in which you can specialize, if that's your preference, or you can work as a generalist and take a track into the field that way. For specialties and some few general items, my vendor-specific survey of information security certs is a pretty good guide
for general stuff. Both the coverage and the advice in my vendor-neutral security certification landscape survey is also worth consulting.
