QUESTION POSED ON: 07 November 2006
The majority of the WLAN penetration testing tools that I know of are open source tools, such as Aircrack and Void11. Are there any commercially available WLAN penetration testing tools on the market today?

EXPERT RESPONSE
You're right; most of the tools used for wireless security assessments are open source tools. This makes most security analysts jump for joy: they love free software! In fact, most auditors that I know rely solely upon these free tools when performing wireless security assessments. However, if you're looking for robust support and documentation, there may be good reason to shell out the big bucks for a commercial package. One such tool is the AiroPeek suite from WildPackets Inc. Good luck in your search!
