Robert Vibert, Anti-Malware Solution Architect, Segura Solutions Inc.
Robert Vibert is the administrator of the Anti-Virus Information Exchange
Network (www.avien.org) and a semi-retired anti-malware solution architect
for Segura Solutions Inc. Formerly a full-time professional computer
security specialist, Robert worked for 22 years in Europe and North America
as a computer, management and security problem-solver for corporate and
government clients, designing enterprise level antivirus software
solutions. Since mid-2001, he has divided his time between the security
world and personal research into questions of a more holistic nature.
The author of several books, including the Enterprise Anti-Virus Book, and
more than 200 articles on computer security and management, he currently
devotes his time and efforts to making the world a better and safer place.

How did you get started in security? In 1991, I had a consulting client get infected with a virus. After I
cleaned that up for them, I decided to learn more about this area. After
reading all the books out there at the time and taking all the courses I
could, I started doing my own research and continued assisting clients.
What non-IT related job experience have you had? Digging ditches, stocking grocery store shelves, working as a cashier and
waiter, construction, technical writing, translation, lumber-jacking,
teaching and general fix-it.
What work-related accomplishment are you most proud of? Creating and leading two companies to technical domination in their
markets.
Who are your security "heros," in other words who has influenced you most
as a security professional? Dr. Alan Solomon and the many, many members of the AntiVirus Information Exchange Network (www.avien.org).
What is your favorite piece of hardware or software?
Hardware: "Marvin the Martian"

What are your hobbies? Reading, reading, reading, studying metaphysics, applying metaphysics.
What one book would you like to be stranded with on a desert island, and
why? War and Peace because it would keep me busy for a while.
What do you like the best about your job? The people I interact with.
What do you like least? Paper work for the government.
What words of wisdom do you give to other security professionals? Study deeply and broadly and get involved with your compatriots in other
organizations. Share the wealth of your knowledge and you will be enriched
by the wealth of others. |
