Access "Editor's Desk: A feature-set in disguise"

Hundreds of vendors attempting to solve one small piece of the security puzzle makes it difficult for security professionals. Are they offering products or features? Once a day I receive an email from a vendor that has refreshed a product line or launched a new security offering. Like clockwork, they infiltrate my inbox with pitches that are eerily similar: Help security professionals protect their assets and meet the myriad of regulations. If it isn't enough to keep track of the 700-plus existing vendors, I have met with startups funded by venture capitalists and angel investors claiming to solve some of the newest conundrums in the security space today: securing mobile devices, protecting Web applications, managing insider threats. The revolving door of vendors makes it difficult to see the complete landscape of security products, and how products in a particular category fit together.
