Art of defence launches community for distributed firewall development

Art of defence has formed a community to develop an open source Web application firewall, contributing its own dWAF code as a starting point.

Distributed Web application firewall (dWAF) vendor art of defence GmbH announced its openWAF project at the 2011 RSA conference. OpenWAF is a community-based open source project dedicated to developing the world's first open source dWAF. It is dependent upon a community of Web application security professionals working together to develop a product that will be the first distributed firewall of its kind. To aid in this endeavor, art of defence will be donating the source code from its own enterprise dWAF to the project.

Art of defence has not set a release date for the source code yet, citing the need for some rework on code licensed from a third party.
