Windows NT-2000 configuration breaches have new enemy

Windows NT-2000 configuration management company, Configuresoft, announces the release of its Enterprise Configuration Manager (ECM) 3.5, a proactive security manager that alerts to configuration changes on NT and Win2000 computers. The release was made in conjunction with another release, the ECM Windows 9x Migrator that identifies conflicts before migrating Windows 95/98-run machines to Win2000. ECM 3.5 also provides a Web console for monitoring configuration settings from virtually anywhere using a standard browser. ECM 3.5 collects security-related configuration data from all systems on a network, simplifying security audits and making for quick corrections.
SafeStone secures $11.75 million investment
Security and management software developer, SafeStone Technologies, secures $11.75 million in venture capital that will be used to develop the company's direct sales and marketing strategy. The 3i Group made the largest investment, $7 million; mcVC Draper Fisher Jurveston Fund I and Cross Atlantic also made investments.
Swedish tobacco manufacturer secures with Infonet
Swedish tobacco leader, Swedish Match, announces it will use international communications provider, Infonet Services Corp.'s end-to-end network services to create an Internet VPN, providing remote offices or partners online access to applications critical to the operation. The iVPN extranet works on a variety of infrastructure, including private and public Internet backbones. Infonet's portfolio of network solutions includes wireless/remote solutions, broadband, Internet and application services like messaging and call centers.
DefendNet scores two deals
DefendNet Solutions, based in Providence, R.I., will secure two new ISP, Web hosting and network integration providers, FastQ and CompuHelp. DefendNet's firewall appliances, 24x7 monitoring, VPNs and anti-virus solutions make up the package secured by FastQ and CompuHelp that will secure Internet connectivity for their customers. In addition, mobile workers, branch offices, remote locations, telecommuters, business partners and suppliers will be securely linked to Web-based applications.
Marconi adds managed services to its suite
Security management provider, Internet Security Systems (ISS), and communications solution provider, Marconi, have partnered to provide customers with managed security services. Marconi will add ISS' Managed Security Services portfolio to its own security services for remote management and 24x7 protection. Marconi will be able to offer its customers a complete solution that includes design, implementation and maintenance of a secure network and quick and accurate vulnerability assessment.
Firewall upgrade supports Me, NT and 2K
Privacyware has released the second version of its Privatefirewall product, a personal firewall and intrustion detection software. Privatewall is one of the few firewalls to support Windows Me, NT and 2000, the company said. Privatewall, targeted for small businesses, monitors and filters inbound and outbound data exchanges between the Internet and PC. The firewall can also be extended to the client level in VPN environments as well as to mobile workers.
