Magazine: Guard Dog top filtering software

Family PC Magazine has named Internet Guard Dog software the best filtering software, getting the only "A" grade in the competitive roundup that included CyberPatrol, CyberSitter, NetNanny and SOS Kid Proof. Guard Dog also garnered high marks for what the magazine calls easy installation and setup. Guard Dog is a McAfee product. The magazine added that Guard Dog is the only filtering software with a setup wizard that creates individual profiles for each computer user. Detailed logs of online activity are also available and individual online settings can be established for each user. Other features include: cookie blocking, Web filtering and anti-virus protection. The Web filtering scans inbound and outbound messages and restrictions can be set for each user. Confidential data is secured with 128-bit encryption.

Fingerprint reader put on Darfon keyboards

Darfon Electronics Corp., has announced it will include DigitalPErsona's U.are.U biometric authentication sensor into its new keyboards. Darfon manufactures mechanical, membrane and USB keyboards for hardware giants like Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Compaq and others. Biometric solutions are intended to replace passwords as authentication and are already being adopted by financial institutions, health care organizations, the military and government, according to Darfon. Digital Persona's U.are.U includes U.are.U Online for the Internet, U.are.U Pro for corporate networks and U.are.U Deluxe for home and office computers. Each solution confirms identity and protects access to information.
