Quick Takes: Keeping remote connections secure



Partnership protects remote connections

Zone Labs announced a partnership with iPass where ZoneLabs centrally managed endpoint security and firewall products would be integrated into iPassConnect client software. The partnership enables network administrators to push security policies on remote PCs. The iPass client enables connectivity to wireless, broadband and dial-up access points worldwide. The combined product is interoperable with major virtual private network platforms.

WatchGuard acquires RapidStream

Internet security product provider, WatchGuard Technologies, announced that its has signed an agreement to acquire RapidStream, a high-performance ASIC-based firewall and VPN appliance provider. The deal is worth $48 million and is expected to close in Q2. WatchGuard said it expects to expand its breadth of customers form small offices to gigabit enterprise-class products with the addition of RapidStream's performance and network capabilities.

Ecora releases updated product line

Ecora Software announced the release of its 2.0 product line last week, rolling out new versions of its Configuration Auditor and Configuration Reporter. The products automate identification, tracking and monitoring of configuration changes for enterprise products from Cisco, Lotus, Microsoft, Novell, Oracle and Solaris. New features include: baseline reporting, change tracking, full scheduling capability, built-in reports and summary reports.

Kudos for Panda Antivirus for Exchange

Panda Software has announced that Secure Computing Magazine has awarded Panda Antivirus for MS Exchange Server the magazine's highest rating in a corporate survey of antivirus products for the Microsoft e-mail server. The magazine cited the product's ease of configuration and maintenance for administrators and its ability to scan incoming and outgoing e-mail messages.

NetScreen recognized by Comnet

NetScreen Technologies announced that its NetScreen-200 Series of integrated ASIC-based Internet security systems and appliances, had won the Comnet award for new product achievement in the security category. The NetScreen-200 Series addresses what is trusted in an network. The NetScreen 208 is the high-end component of the NetScreen-200 Series features eight auto-sensing and auto-correcting 10/100 Ethernet ports and delivers 550 Mbps of firewall and 200 Mbps of VPN throughput. The NetScreen-204 has four 10/100 ports and 400 Mbps of firewall and 200 Mbps of VPN performance.
