Check Point Software announced Check Point SecurePlatform Media Pack, a product that simplifies Check Point deployment on open platforms. The product arrives on a bootable CD-ROM that includes a hardened, customized operating system and Check Point's VPN-1/FireWall-1 software that runs on any Intel-based PC orserver. The SecurePlatform MediaPack installs in less than 10 minutes because of Check Point's One-Click Install technology. The product is available immediately.
Sophos releases MailMonitor for Exchange 2000
UK-based antivirus company Sophos announced the release of Sophos MailMonitor for Exchange 2000, an antivirus gateway product developed for Microsoft Exchange 2000 servers. MailMonitor scans incoming e-mail messages for malicious code and enables administrators to disinfect, delete or quarantine infected messages. By sitting on the gateway, MailMonitor protects wide area and local area networks.
SCM sends more smart card readers to US Army
SCM Microsystems announced that it has shipped an additional 85,000 smart card readers to the U.S. Army as part of the Department of Defense's (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC) program. This follows an initial shipment of 50,000 readers for the initiative in November 2001. SCM is supplying the U.S. Army with smart card readers through its partner, Northrop Grumman's (NYSE: NOC) Information Technology. The CAC program is designed to provide over four million active duty military personnel, selected reserve, DoD civilian employees and eligible contractor personnel with a standard identification badge based on smart card technology. SCM is providing a variety of serial port, USB and PCMCIA readers for the DoD program. All of SCM's readers are compliant with PS/SC standards to allow full smart card handling capabilities of Microsoft Windows.
AppDetective for SQL Server available
Application Security Inc., announced that AppDetective for SQL Server Version 2.5 is available. The product is an application security scanner that does network-based penetration tests and vulnerability assessments. This version extends its reach from Oracle to Microsoft SQL Server databases. The product locates, examines, reports and fixes database security holes and misconfigurations. Future generations will further extend reach to Sybase, Lotus Domino, MySQL and IBM DB2.
SnapGear rolls out new VPN router appliance
SnapGear announced a new virtual private network router appliance, SnapGear PRO+, with an integrated V.90 modem that allows an enterprise customer to switch to a modem connection in the event of an ADSL or cable modem outage. The enterprise appliance features 3DES capacity of 35 Mbps and optimization for the PPPoE protocol used by ADSL. It also has in-built PPTP client and server which means that Windows users are able to remotely connect to a SnapGear without the additional expense of third-party clients. The product ships in April and starts at $849.
