SCM Microsystems, Inc. of Fremont, Calif. recently announced it will provide smart card readers to PC maker MicronPC of Nampa, Idaho. The joint initiative will provide secure network access to General Services Administration and military personnel under the Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC) program. SCM's USB, serial and PCMCIA smart card readers will be offered as an external option on MicronPC's ClientPro 325, 525, and CH desktop computers, as well as the TransPort T1000, V1000, and GX3 notebooks.

F-Secure first to receive U.S. government crypto validation
Finland-based F-Secure has become the first company in the world to receive U.S. government validation for cryptographic products on Windows Powered mobile platforms, with a new FIPS 140-2 certification. Microsoft Windows-powered devices include smart phones and PDA devices, such as the HP iPAQ Pocket PC. The certified cryptographic module is used in F-Secure FileCrypto for Pocket PC, which is a full-featured content encryption application providing strong protection for Pocket PC devices against unwanted data disclosure.
Trend Micro reports earnings
Japan-based Trend Micro Inc. recently reported results earnings for the third quarter that ended Sept. 30. Trend Micro posted consolidated net sales of 10.7 billion yen, (or $85 million) and operating income of 3 billion yen (or $24 million). The figures reflect gains of 42% in sales and 16% in operating income compared with the same period a year ago.
