Internet Security Systems announced enhancements to its Dynamic Threat Protection platform that support IPv6, leading off this edition of Quick Takes.

ISS addresses IPv6 security issues

Internet Security Systems announced enhancements to its ISS Dynamic Threat Protection platform that address Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), the successor to IPv4. Two components of the platform, RealSecure Network 7.0 intrusion protection aplicaiton and Proventia protection appliances, support IPv6 standards and are able to decode and inspect all supported IPv4 protocols and attacks or misuse even if buried in IPv6. They also inspect IPv6 encapsulated in either static or 6-to-4 auto Simple Internet Transition (SIT) tunnels. ISS points out that network administrators may be behind in securing IPv6 attacks, something that hackers are exploiting. IPv6 production networks already exist in Europe and Asia.
