SAN FRANCISCO -- Antivirus giants McAfee and Symantec launched new tools to fight spyware and adware at the RSA Security conference.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based McAfee Inc. has launched Anti-Spyware Enterprise, which uses "proactive on-access scanning to identify and safely eliminate potentially unwanted programs such as spyware, adware, dialers, keyloggers, cookies and remote-control programs," the company said in a statement. "[It] is easily deployed, controlled and monitored with centralized management tools designed specifically for the unique requirements of small-to-medium businesses or large distributed enterprises."

The company said Anti-Spyware Enterprise "integrates seamlessly" with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 and 8.0i and is "easily deployed and centrally managed" under a single console with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator for enterprises and ProtectionPilot for small- and medium-sized businesses.

Meanwhile, Cupertino, Calif.-based Symantec said it will launch Client Security 3.0 and AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10 next month, giving enterprise users "comprehensive protection" against spyware, adware and blended threats.

"Customers are looking for spyware and adware protection from their antivirus vendor…," Brian Foster, Symantec's senior director of product management for client and host security, said in a statement. "Symantec's leadership in protecting more than 100 million desktops and client systems from viruses and malicious code… make us uniquely qualified to expand… to the complex areas of spyware and adware."
