Windows administrators will only be half as busy this Patch Tuesday as originally planned. Microsoft has decided to hold back on half of the fixes it had planned to release.

According to an updated advisory on its Web site, Microsoft said it now plans to release one critical security update for Windows and three updates for Microsoft Office. At least one of the Office updates will address critical problems, the software giant said.

Microsoft had originally planned to release three updates for Windows, one for Windows and Visual Studio; one for Windows and Office and three for Office.

Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for more information.

In addition to the four bulletins scheduled for Tuesday, Microsoft will also update its Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and will offer a Webcast the next day at 11 a.m. Pacific Time so customers can ask questions about the patches.

Microsoft released seven security updates last month, including fixes for zero-day flaws in Visual Studio and Windows Media Player.
