Metasploit Framework creator H.D. Moore announced Tuesday that version 3.0 of his popular penetration testing tool is now available.

Metasploit Framework version 3.0 contains 177 exploits, 104 payloads, 17 encoders, and three nop modules. It also includes 30 auxiliary modules that perform a variety of tasks, including host discovery, protocol fuzzing, and denial-of-service testing.

Metasploit is a popular tool IT security professionals use to perform penetration tests and verify patch installations. Software vendors use it to perform regression testing. The framework is written in the Ruby programming language and includes components written in C and assembler. It runs on all modern operating systems, including Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, and most flavors of BSD.
