The ... synergies between the two companies made this a logical next step in moving towards unified protection and control that cuts across multiple departments within an enterprise.

PatchLink Corp. on Monday said it would acquire endpoint security vendor SecureWave in an all-stock merger.

Scottsdale, Ariz.-based PatchLink said it plans to merge SecureWave technology into a platform to secure enterprise servers and endpoints.

SecureWave, based in Luxembourg, has more than 1,700 customers worldwide. The merger transaction is subject to the approval of SecureWave's shareholders and is expected to be closed in the coming weeks.

SecureWave's Sanctuary software and appliances contain policy enforcement tools to manage and monitor device and application use to protect against data leakage and malware threats. PatchLink plans to combine the endpoint security software with its vulnerability management technology for enterprise-wide policy management and automated patching.

"The technical and geographic synergies between the two companies made this a logical next step in moving towards unified protection and control that cuts across multiple departments within an enterprise," Bob Johnson, CEO of SecureWave said in a statement.

PatchLink-SecureWave:
Endpoint fears drive PatchLink-SecureWave merger: Experts say the PatchLink-SecureWave merger makes sense since IT pros want a better way to protect their endpoint devices. But PatchLink's market supremacy is far from assured.

PatchLink recently acquired the STAT Guardian vulnerability management suite from Harris Corp., a Melbourne, Fla.-based IT communications vendor that caters to government and commercial markets. That acquisition was in February.

PatchLink said the acquisition of the STAT Guardian suite helped it sharpen its focus on risk management and policy-based compliance. The tool also helped PatchLink build a unified end point security platform with a single, policy-based architecture and consolidated compliance reporting, the company said.

The acuisiiton of the STAT tools included the STAT Command Center, STAT Report Center, STAT Analyzer and STAT Scanner, which have already been integrated into PatchLink's flagship product, PatchLink Update. The combined solution is currently deployed by some of the largest enterprises in the world as a result of an existing OEM partnership, the company said.
