Mozilla plans to rush an update for its popular Firefox browser after a recent patch fixing some 200 flaws in the browser resulted in stability issues and minor bugs, according to the vendor.
On Monday Mozilla rolled out version 2.0.0.8 to address multiple security flaws attackers could exploit to tamper with sensitive information, conduct phishing attacks and run malicious code. The update fixed memory corruption bugs in the browser, Java script engine flaws and handling errors that could be used by hackers to cause a number of problems for users.
Version 2.0.0.9 could be issued as early as next week, Mozilla said. The most critical bug that would be addressed is a crash sometimes experienced by Windows users at startup. The rushed update would also address an CSS rendering issue, Java handling errors experienced by Windows Vista users and enable some browser add-ons that were disabled after the previous update was installed.
"We're working fast to understand and fix these problems, and will shortly be issuing a 2.0.0.9 update to address them," Mozilla said in a statement at its Developer Center. "Most users won't see any difference or experience any problems, and those 200 fixes make the 2.0.0.8 update very valuable, but you should never have to choose functionality over security."
