Layoffs affect EMC's RSA security division |

EMC Corp.'s RSA security division is trimming a number of security researchers, sales and support staff, the company confirmed Monday.
Matt Buckley, head of public relations at RSA, said the restructuring affected small numbers of employees in each of RSA's business units as part of a plan to eliminate "positional redundancies."
"Over the upcoming weeks, efforts will be made to identify other opportunities within the company for all affected employees," Buckley said in an email exchange.
EMC, of Hopkinton, Mass., acquired RSA in 2006 for about $2.1 billion in cash. RSA, which makes identity and access management, encryption, and key management software, has operated as a separate security division based in Bedford, Mass.
Buckley said the layoffs at RSA is not indicative of massive downsizing. The division plans to continue to invest, recruit and hire people in all major segments of its business, he said.
"At its core, we made this decision because we are always looking to improve efficiencies across the company and reduce costs - key concerns for any watchful enterprise, but of particular pertinence for an organization post-acquisition."
News of the layoffs come within only a few months after RSA acquired Tablus, of San Mateo, Calif. Tablus, a provider of data-loss prevention products and services, is being integrated with RSA's encryption and information management offerings.
