CA to acquire Orchestria for DLP |

CA Inc. announced plans to acquire Orchestria Corp., one of the few remaining independent data loss prevention (DLP) technology vendors.

CA plans to sell Orchestria's DLP product along side CA's identity and access management software.
"We are continuing our aggressive plan to deliver to our customers a comprehensive solution for identity and access management to help meet their security, compliance and privacy needs," said Dave Hansen, corporate senior vice president and general manager of CA Security Management.
Analysts anticipate an increased interest in DLP technologies in 2009. In November, Code Green announced plans to enter the rapidly consolidating DLP market, citing the increased interest in the technology from small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). Microsoft is also seeing an increased interest in DLP. The software giant will be adding new data classification technology into its core products under a deal announced last month that bridges Microsoft's infrastructure with RSA's DLP suite.
New York City-based Orchestria has development and engineering offices in the U.K. It competes with some large, established vendors, which acquired their way into the market, including Symantec Corp. (Vontu), EMC Corp. (Tablus), McAfee Inc. (Onigma and Reconnex), Raytheon Co. (Oakley), Websense Inc. (Port Authority) and Trend Micro Inc. (Provilla). Several other independent DLP vendors remain, including Code Green, Vericept Corp., Verdasys Inc., GTB Technologies Inc. and Workshare Inc.
CA said it expects to retain nearly all of Orchestria's employees. The deal is expected to close by the end of the month.
