We asked security pros to give us their industry predictions for the New Year. Here Joel Johnson lists what he feels will be the top five concerns among security administrators.
Virus Attacks -- This is number one on my list because most of these types of attacks provide the most obvious damage and can also provide hidden security breaches.
IIS attacks -- There is always someone out there trying to bring down Microsoft products and exploit weaknesses in IIS. Keeping up to date with the latest security threats is critical.
Encryption -- Hackers are getting smarter and smarter as more and more information is available. Pretty soon 128-bit encryption will not be safe anymore.
Exchange -- Insuring the integrity of the mail server will be another concern for 2002. Encrypted mail may be a future implementation to insure that mail is not tampered with.
Desktop updates -- A lot of remote workers do not log onto an internal domain controller for everyday use. These systems can be forgotten about and can be out of date with security patches.
