| This week we wanted to see what others were saying about the chief information officer: the tasks they need to focus on, the skills they need, the organizational position they occupy and even what new title they might expect. We found, as expected, the CIO position is changing rapidly, but few observers agree on the details. There are myriad conflicting predictions. Some feel the CIOs position will split into separate technical and business focused positions, while others say it will expand to take in all of an organizations knowledge management. Some believe the current CIO is in danger of extinction, while others see a logical progression into the CEO position. We have assembled a representative sample of articles, some from pundits, some reporting on IT executive conference sessions and some from CIO's themselves. We feel they give you a snapshot of how the job is being reshaped by environmental and organizational forces around us.
