Remote access VPNs are undergoing a revolution with the introduction of enterprise-ready SSL VPN devices. While traditional IPsec is widely deployed, new SSL-based VPN remote access systems are maturing and being pitched not only to supplement IPsec VPN, but in some cases to supplant IPsec VPN. And in many ways, SSL VPN products are becoming the aggregation of all the things needed to fix IPsec remote access, such as broad multiplatform support, simplified administration, easy intranet deployment and fine grained access control. Enterprises with fully installed IPsec remote access VPNs may find that SSL VPNs offer an opportunity -- or they may not.
