Gather round, pilgrims! Thursday, November 27th, is Thanksgiving in the United States. We'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you for contributing to whatis.com and helping us to keep the site growing and useful. Please join us for our traditional November Thanksgiving quiz-feast of IT terms!

1. Dinner is served, so grab a plate and gather round the buffet. In wireless communications, this connects the antenna to the receiver, transmitter, or transceiver.
What is it?

2. Sounds like an endearment for the star of the traditional Thanksgiving meal: this is a false, or phantom, signal that appears in a superheterodyne wireless receiver.
What is it?

3. Loaded with food, it's sometimes called a groaning board: this is a data structure used to organize information.
What is it?

4. Sounds a bit like a savory turkey side-dish. In IT, this is the addition of a small number of binary digits to a transmission unit in order to fill it up to a standard size or to help synchronize signaling rates between points in a network.
What is it?

5. This is a derogatory term for someone who tends to spend a great deal of leisure time in front of the computer, perhaps coming to resemble a beloved tuber of the holiday table.
What is it?

6. Grind 'em up to serve with dessert! This is an object-oriented programming interface from Sun Microsystems that lets you build re-useable applications or program building blocks called components that can be deployed in a network on any major operating system platform.
What is it?

7. Would this be the result of husking maize for Thanksgiving dinner? This Unix command execution program developed at Bell Labs is a comprehensive combined version of other major UNIX shells.
What is it?

8. Does an overstuffed turkey leave this on the way to the stove? In IT, this is a navigation tool on a Web site that allows a user to see where the current page is in relation to the Web site's hierarchy.
What is it?

9. Do you use cinnamon in yours? In IT, this is a numerical constant that represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter on a flat plane surface.
What is it?

10. If you do this, you might not have to loosen your belt buckle after dinner. In IT, this is a computer system, especially in the entertainment industry, that combines disparate hardware and software-controlled lighting, sound, and visual effects into a single, synchronized system.
What is it?

How many could you guess correctly without peeking? Let us know and we'll add your name to the November Know-IT-All Honor Roll!
