Jose Nazario on botnets, cyberwarfare

DATE: 12 Mar 2009

Botnets are being used more frequently to silence political dissenters, explains Jose Nazario of Arbor Networks. Nazario has been studying the rise of botnets as a tool used in cyberwarfare. DDoS attacks are a growing part of cyberwarfare. As a result, researchers from both the public and private sectors are sharing information, Nazario says. In his presentation at the SOURCE Boston 2009 security conference, Nazario explored a number of politically motivated attacks in Eastern Europe, Russia and Asia and explained how Arbor Networks measures and tracks the attacks. Nazario is interviewed by Robert Westervelt of SearchSecurity.com.
