Kevin Mahaffey: Mobile security technologies are just emerging

SAN FRANCISCO -- Available mobile security technologies are failing to be a panacea to the mixture of threats posed by Google Android and Apple iOS devices connecting to the corporate network, according to a noted mobile security expert.

In this video conducted at RSA Conference 2012, Kevin Mahaffey, CTO of Lookout Mobile Security, breaks down fact from fiction when it comes to mobile security threats and explains why most mobile security technologies currently fail to address the complex issues facing enterprises.

Mahaffey said innovative mobile security technologies are on the horizon, but for now most enterprises have to wade through a market of 50 or more mobile device management vendors and cloud-based security technologies that only solve some issues. Researchers are working on interesting virtualization technologies that can isolate a device owner’s personal and professional activities and data on their smartphone, he said.
