About the White Paper:
To secure networks effectively, enterprises must augment their static network infrastructures with new dynamic capabilities. These capabilities include screening devices and users before they access the network, restricting users to authorized resources, continually inspecting traffic for new threats, and enforcing security policies 24/7 on all traffic. Analysts such as Gartner now term this set of capabilities, network access management (NAM).
This paper examines three important industry initiatives for NAM: Microsoft's Network Access Protection initiative, Cisco's Network Access Control initiative, and the Trusted Computing Group Trusted Network Connect initiative. Because these initiatives remain works in progress, the paper also examples a NAM solution available today: the Vernier EdgeWall network appliance, which integrates with existing infrastructures and adds clientless, in-line security controls and NAM capabilities.
