The remainder of this paper is organized as follows. In section two, we list and explain the characteristics desired of a biometric authentication system and also discuss the security considerations peculiar to biometric authentication devices. We describe a number of the current, leading biometric authentication products in section three and some currently deployed systems and prototypes and emerging standards in section four. We present some recent market and technology projections in section five. Finally, in section six, we discuss some of the technical issues that would be involved in integrating biometric authentication technologies into SDTI's SecurSight. We conclude with suggestions for how the reader can learn more about biometrics. |
