Security White Papers:

An introduction to digital signatures

Date Published:
01 SEP 2001
About the White Paper:
This white paper provides a technical introduction to digital signatures. It includes an overview of the information that must be packaged during signature creation to allow subsequent signature verification, how XML may be effectively used to package signature information and the processes of signing and verification. The paper describes an approach to enabling applications for digital signatures and security issues associated with digital signatures. One goal of the paper is to make it clear that digital signatures require much more than just the use of cryptographic digital signature algorithms, making a strong argument for using a product designed to address the various digital signature issues in a consistent, effective and manageable manner.
