New features added to Juniper Networks security platform

New features include containerized firewalls and the incorporation of SecIntel into MX Series routers as part of Juniper Networks' effort to provide security throughout a network.

Juniper Networks has released updates to its Connected Security platform, with new features including an updated containerized firewall and security intelligence for MX Series routers.

As IT and infrastructure grows, so, too, do the security demands. According to Juniper Networks, Connected Security works by giving users visibility into who and what is on a network in order to provide protection close to the endpoint. The updates are part of an effort by Juniper to provide deep network visibility and multiple points of enforcement throughout it.

One of the key updates Juniper Networks made is to its cSRX containerized firewall, which extends security to where applications native to the cloud reside. Juniper Networks claims this ensures consistent policy across IoT infrastructure, and public and private cloud. As more users move services and applications to containers, cSRX helps containerize the network. It can integrate with traditional security management and SDN controllers.

Another update to Connected Security is the incorporation of Security Intelligence (SecIntel) into MX Series routers in an effort to extend Juniper Networks security to routing infrastructure. This update will block command and control traffic at the hardware level.

With this, the router can block malicious traffic, which turns connectivity layers into automated defense layers. Additionally, Juniper Networks claims this works with the distributed denial-of-service product it developed with Corero, which enables a "true defense in-depth architecture" to be built without investing in more hardware.

The new SecIntel feature was part of an effort to reduce strain on upstream security resources and enable greater scale on higher compute-cost security resources. SecIntel integration for MX Series routers is available in JUN0S 19.3.
