Quick Takes: Keep those e-mail lists secure

L-Soft and F-Secure have teamed up to secure e-mail lists. L-Soft announced this week that it was integrating F-Secure's anti-virus technology into its Listserv e-mail list management software, making it the first to provide virus protection to e-mail list subscribers. F-Secure Anti-Virus will check e-mail attachments sent via mailing lists for viruses. If detected, Listserv will reject the message. The protection will be free for L-Soft's Windows 2000 and Linux customers. Listserv currently manages more than 190,000 lists worldwide.

Group Software adds image-scanning to its product

Group Software announced that it is adding image scanning to its securiQ Suite content security software. The module scans images in e-mail and attachments to detect and block objectionable content, like pornography, from entering the enterprise. The software can scan more than 20 image types and does so by creating visual fingerprints of the image that represent its color, texture, shape and composite. The images are categorized and ranked from 0 (harmless) to 100 (highly objectionable). Objectionable images are blocked, then quarantined or deleted. Group Software positions the software as a means of protecting companies from legal liability due to inappropriate content transmitted internally or externally. The module will be available in Q1 2002.
