Industry Notebook: Check Point in the Zone

Check Point has acquired Zone Labs in a $205 million deal, leading off this edition of Industry Notebook. Also included are items from RSA Security and Vontu, F-Secure, Array Networks, Astaro, Sanctum Inc., Aris and GuardedNet.

Check Point to acquire Zone Labs

Check Point Software Technologies announced an agreement to acquire Zone Labs for $205 million. Check Point plans to pay approximately $113 million in cash and $92 million in shares; they will also assume Zone Labs employee stock options, which will be converted to Check Point shares. Zone Labs' endpoint security products such as their Zone Labs Integrity, Zone Alarm Pro and IM secure will join Check Point's perimeter, internal and Web security products.

RSA, Vontu partner for better internal security

RSA Security announced a partnership with firewall vendor Vontu to fortify internal security. Under this agreement Vontu Protect will integrate RSA BSAFER encryption to provide stronger protection for customer data. Vontu Protect monitors e-mail, Web mail, Web posts, IM, FTP and any other sensitive corporate data flowing across the network.

F-Secure's Internet Security 2004 available

F-Secure announced that its Internet Security 2004 shipped and is available for download or via an F-Secure distribution partner. Internet Security 2004 provides antivirus software and a firewall to protect against malicious code and attacks.

Array Networks updates Array SP C

VPN vendor Array Networks announced Array SP 6.2, its SSL-based VPN product. Some of the updated features include improved authentication and authorization of users, enhanced file sharing with custom file navigation, access logging and performance, Array said.

Astaro Configuration Manager eases policy management

Astaro announced that the Astaro Configuration Manager has begun shipping. The tool enables organizations to centrally manage security policies and automate security rules via routers, switches, firewalls and VPNs.

AppScan QA 4.0 for Mercury TestDirector 8.0 available

Application security vendor Sanctum Inc. announced that the AppScan QA 4.0 for Mercurity TestDirector 8.0 is available. AppScan QA for Mercury provides organizations with an integrated testing platform for enabling application security testing during the QA process. Some key features of the the AppScan QA for Mercury TestDirector include automatic test creation, modification and maintenance process to test for common vulnerabilities; integration with TestDirector environment; and defect management for quickly identifying any application security defects.

ARIS helps meet Sarbanes-Oxley compliance

IDS Sheer announced ARIS Sarbanes-Oxley Audit manager to help organizations become compliant with regulations. ARIS is a Web-based workflow system that monitors, tests and certifies internal controls using three phases: assessing current control system; documenting Sarbanes-Oxley processes for efficiency controls using risk management techniques; and providing regular monitoring and improvement of activities.

GuardedNet joins NetScreen Global Security Alliance

GuardedNet announced its embership in the NetScreen Global Security Alliance now that its neuSECURE Security Information Management Platform is interoperable with NetScreen network security products. NeuSECURE provides a centralized monitoring platform for threat response, log aggregation, event correlation and forensic investigation of security events. neuSECURE can interoperate with NetScreen's firewalls, VPN and IDS/IPS products for a more comprehensive network security strategy.
